Behind the Christmas Pot: A Family Heirloom in Mosaic

Behind the Christmas Pot: A Family Heirloom in Mosaic

Some mosaics become part of your life, year after year.

That’s exactly what happened with my Christmas Pot.

It wasn’t just made for decoration—it was made to hold our live Christmas tree.

And now it’s become a family heirloom, with memories embedded into every gnome and tile.

The Design Process

I wanted something special and personal, so I designed a set of gnomes just for this pot.

But it didn’t stop there—my daughter took the designs and coloured them herself.

Her drawings brought the characters to life in a new way, and those colours ended up guiding the final mosaic.

So, in the end, the pot became a joint creation, part me and part her.

More Than Just a Pot

Now, every year when we bring in the live Christmas tree, that lives outdoors the rest of the year in the pot.

It’s no longer just a piece of garden art—it’s tradition.

The Christmas pot lives in our front garden all year round, but come December, it’s the center of our holiday season.

Why It Matters

This pot represents more than just the holidays.

It’s about family, collaboration, and creating something lasting together.

That’s why it’s a piece I’ll always treasure—it’s not just art, it’s a memory in mosaic.

Final Thoughts: Making Art That Becomes Family

The Christmas pot is a reminder that art can become part of daily life and family tradition.

When you create something together, it becomes more than just an object—it becomes part of your story.
