Bobby The Alexandrine: How We Met | A story of love at first sight and a series of unfortunate circumstances
🕊️ Bobby: The Alexandrine — My Boo-Boo
The kind of bond that chooses you back
🌿 Introduction
If Bobby had his way…
there’d be a permanent perch bolted to my shoulder.
And that’s where he’d stay.
Always close.
Always watching.
Always part of me.
Because that’s what he is.
👉 A piece of my soul.
🌿 Where It All Began
Before art became my full-time world…
I spent 15 years working as a domestic cleaner.
Life looked very different then.
More structured.
More routine.
But even in those everyday moments…
sometimes something unexpected finds you.
🌿 The First Meeting
One day, a client told me about their new “babies.”
Two conures — brought in as support animals for anxiety.
But in another room…
was him.
A baby Alexandrine.
About five months old.
We locked eyes.
And that was it.
👉 No hesitation. No question.
We were already connected.
🌿 Small Moments That Built Something Bigger
After that, I started bringing him treats.
Nothing big.
Just small offerings of care.
I’d spend time with them during my visits:
- Talking about bird care
- Sharing advice on enrichment and diet
- Making sure they were getting what they needed
Birds have always been my thing.
I understand them.
And they understand me.
👉 Those quiet, repeated moments…
became something deeper.
🌿 When Everything Changed
Then came the floods.
The kind that don’t feel real when you first see them.
Homes filled with water.
Hallways turned into rivers.
The devastation in Creswick was unimaginable.
I called my client straight away:
👉 “What do you need? What can I do?”
The answer became clear very quickly.
🌿 Holding What Needed Holding
While the family was displaced…
I took in the animals.
All of them.
- The conures
- Two Murray River turtles
- A blue-tongued lizard
- And Bobby
It wasn’t a decision.
It was just what needed to be done.
🌿 Time Changes Things
Six months passed.
Then more.
The family worked to rebuild their lives.
Eventually, they were able to take their conures back.
But Bobby stayed.
Because by then…
he wasn’t just a bird I looked after.
👉 He was mine.
And I was his.
🌿 A Bond That Can’t Be Undone
With birds, bonding isn’t casual.
It’s deep.
It’s emotional.
It’s lasting.
Separating us now wouldn’t just be difficult—
👉 it would be harmful.
We belong together.
Not out of circumstance anymore.
But out of connection.
🖼️ Life Now
These days, Bobby and Precious share life together.
Safe.
Content.
Outside in their aviary.
And while he still loves being close…
he’s found balance.
🌿 The Dream
One day, I want to build something bigger for them.
Not just an aviary.
But a space that feels like freedom.
A large flight aviary running along the side of the lounge room.
Connected to the windows.
Where they can:
- Fly
- Watch
- Be part of everything
👉 The best of both worlds.
🌿 Core Reflection: The Ones Who Stay
Some connections are chosen.
Some happen slowly.
And some…
arrive all at once and never leave.
Bobby was one of those.
He came into my life through circumstance.
But he stayed because of something deeper.
👉 Trust
👉 Care
👉 Presence
🌿 Final Thoughts: One Day
Life doesn’t always give you neat beginnings.
Or planned endings.
But sometimes…
it gives you something in between.
A connection.
A responsibility.
A quiet kind of love.
And you build from there.
One day, I’ll build that space for them.
One day, it’ll all come together.
👉 One day.
💌 A Gentle Invitation
If you’ve ever felt a connection like this—
with an animal, a person, or even a moment—
you already understand.
Not everything we create is planned.
Some things…
just become part of us.
