The Story Behind My Birdbath Mosaic

Some mosaics are more than decoration—they’re a mix of memories, love, and shared moments.

My birdbath mosaic is one of the first large pieces I ever made. It wasn’t just about trying something new—it was about connecting with family, nature, and colour.

How It Started

My mother-in-law gifted me a voucher to buy a birdbath because she knew I wanted to mosaic one myself.

We’ve always connected over gardens, plants, and flowers. It’s something that brings us together, and this mosaic became part of that shared story.

Bringing Together Both Our Styles

When I designed the birdbath, I wanted to include both our tastes:

I love rainbows and colour

She loves classic blue and white china

So I blended the two.

The Design

The inside of the bowl is done in a rainbow pattern—bright, bold, and cheerful.

The pole and outer rim are covered in roses floating on a white background, with a blue border as a nod to her love of traditional patterns.

It’s all the elements combined into one piece—a balance between playful and classic, between my style and hers.

Why It Matters

This birdbath isn’t just a garden feature—it’s a symbol of family connection and shared creativity.

Every time I see it, I think of the afternoons spent chatting about flowers, the trips to garden shops, and the little moments that make life richer.

It’s more than tiles and glue—it’s a story in mosaic.

Final Thoughts: Creating with Meaning

Mosaics don’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. Sometimes the simplest designs are the ones that hold the most personal value.

That’s why this birdbath is one of my favourite early works—it has all the elements that matter.
